Do people have instincts? I know that animals do but do people? is the survival instinct an instinct?

well, people have needs but idk if they are actually instincts.

Once, I was told by one of my psychology profs that humans don't have instincts. Then, later in my college career I was told that humans do have instincts. I really don't know what to think anymore...
